My once teeny, tiny, squishy, little newborn is now a TODDLER. I don’t think I’ve come to accept that yet, and don’t intend on doing so (the ugly crying is real friends). I was cleaning up his nursery, erh, room (😩) and knew I needed to make some changes.
The white, cozy rocking chair that I had spent many nights rocking him to sleep on, was sitting in the corner with a pile of clothes on it. There were still little baby toys that Cole hadn’t used in months mixed in with his “big boy toys”. And there were outgrown clothes hanging in his closet. So I decided it was time to re do his room and make it a fun toddler space. Ps- I did go through his closet and put away clothes that didn’t fit him anymore- and if you’re a mama you totally understand that doing this task is THE most depressing thing E V E R.
Moving on- Per usual, I went to the ole’ Pinterest app on my iPhone and scrolled through countless ideas of how to transform his little room. Then I saw it, the cutest corner learning space! You guys, I can’t even explain how easy this was! AND I did it all by myself! Silent hand pat on the back.
Using some materials I had a home, a trip to Walmart and target, and about 15 minutes of my time, Coles learning nook was done!
I got the chalkboard a few years ago at Michaels Craft Store, and remembered it was just sitting in my basement from the last time I used it. You can find a chalkboard literally anywhere!
Supplies needed:
- Chalkboard
- Kid Table
- Curtain rod
- Metal bins
- Shower hooks
So the coat hooks that you guys see, I actually didn’t end up using because the curtain rod came with the hanging material I needed. But that just shows that you could get hooks with a little more character if you wanted.
So when I saw the idea on Pinterest I knew I needed to invest in a little table for Cole. So I went online and typed in “toddler table” and found the perfect 3-Piece table at Walmart! (Click on that link and it’ll bring you right to it!) Not only did it match the espresso color of all the furniture in Coles room, but it didn’t break the bank at only $25! AND it’s a dry-erase board as the table top!
The curtain hanger was also found at Walmart, again I wanted the same color scheme of what his room already looked like! But the tin cans were found in the party-planning area at Target (you can bet I got my Starbucks coffee, and happily strolled down every damn isle of that place). So once I started piecing everything together in my head, I had to figure out how I was going to easily hang these adorable cans from the curtain rod. As I casually walked through the bathroom isle, I saw the shower hooks and knew that would work.
Once the table was assembled (which was extremely easy) and placed in his room, I started planning out where I was going to hang everything. I measured out where the curtain rod was going to be hung, made the marks and tested out how far away I wanted the tin cans from the table. Once I figured that out, I used the hanging materials enclosed with the curtain rod and hung it up. Hanging the chalkboard was super easy, only 2 screws needed on my end. Then the exciting part- hanging the tin cans on the shower hooks and filling them up with craft materials! This was a hit for Cole- he already is having so much fun coloring on the table! I’m obsessed that the table top is a dry erase board and it can easily be cleaned up!
Happy DIY-ing friends!
