Sweet summertime means BBQ’s, family, friends, sunshine + memory makin’. It also means tis’ the season for BUGS. Ew. Among the hated, give me the shivers thinking about it “nasties”, ticks are at the top of my list for the most hated insect.
As if parents had enough to worry about, TICKS are bad business. Not only are they creepy-crawlers, but they carry Lyme disease and newly found Powassan virus. As if I’m not paranoid enough about keeping my small human safe, now I don’t even want to bring him outdoors. But let’s be real, we can’t stop doing what we love doing, we just have to be smart and conscious about what’s going on.
After doing some research on the web, I found a lot of products that had harsh chemicles in them. This is a big no-no for my sons precious little fingers, because toddlers put everything in their mouth. Finally I went on Pinterest and found exactly what I was searching for ( ps Pinterest you da real M.V.P) ESSENTIAL OILS. No, I am not an earthy-crunchy, granola mama. But seriously, essential oils are good for everything. The best part? It’s safe for humans + pets AND it cost me less than $15 to make this and the oils will last for a long time.
I headed over to our local health food store and with their assistance, got everything I needed. For this project you’ll need the following:
- Eucalyptus essential oil
- Lemongrass essential oil
- Water
- Glass spray bottle*
- Lint roller
Okay you’re probably wondering why I added a lint roller in there. This is such an easy hack- when you come inside, use the lint roller on you and your loved ones; you’ll be surprised how many of those pesky ticks it’ll pick up!
Recipe:
- 4 oz water
- 20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 20 drops lemongrass essential oil
- SHAKE WELL
Its as simple as that people. Wham bam thank ya ma’am. Spray on shoes, socks, and pants! Now we can enjoy being outside with a little peace of mind.
XO
