If you’re a Mama, you and I both know that doing our hair is on the lower end of the priority list. My style has consistently turned into whatever I can quickly throw on without looking like I haven’t left the house in 3 days, applying some mascara and concealer to hide those bags that have found a home under my eyes, and putting my hair in a top-knot so that my kid won’t rip I out. What is it with babies and tugging at their mamas hair and finding it absolutely hilarious?
Before I had Cole, doing my hair and makeup was part of my everyday routine. I love getting all done-up. Most days I am able to complete this task, but other days leggings + messy buns are my go-to, and there is nothing wrong with that. After our morning routine, attempting to get my child to go down for a nap, while trying to tackle household chores, the last thing I want to do is my hair. Hell, all I want to do once that little human is asleep is sit my bum on the couch and get 3 episodes deep in whatever my current Netflix obsession is. I surely cannot be the only mama with this thought process.
You’ll notice on my social media accounts, that my hair is usually up, with the rare occasion that is is down. You can bet that when I am capable of curling it, I make my husband take some photos, because seriously, that hair elastic is going to be making an appearance FAST. Here’s how I can quickly get that top-knot that will last all day-
I like my buns to be messy, so gather up that hair, and put it into a pony tail. (Quick tip- dry shampoo. Spray some on your hair before doing this. You’re welcome.)
Ever heard of the ballerina bun? This process is somewhat like that. I take the pony tail in one hand, and start wrapping it around the elastic in the other.
Hold the top of the bun like shown in the picture and keep wrapping around.
Make sure you have bobby-pins out, you’re gonna need a few!
Fun fact: nothing irritates my husband more than when he finds my bobby pins laying around everywhere. I find it hilarious.
Take some hairspray and spray the heck outta that bun! My favorite hairspray is Ausie – it keeps everything in tact and doesn’t make my hair feel stiff.
Add some earrings or a necklace and ta-da! Looks like you spent some time on this up-do, when really it only took you a few minutes!
Takin’ motherhood by storm one top-knot at a time.
