Yesterday our closest friends + family members joined us to celebrate our little boy turning 1. I will forever wonder where the time goes. Both my husband and I are from Maine (and we will probably never leave) so it seemed fitting to have a ‘lumberjack bash.’ I am all about a good party, especially one that consists of red + black buffalo plaid (just sayin’)
It may be cliche to hold such a big event for a one-year-old but seriously- YOU ONLY TURN ONE ONCE. And let’ be real- thats my baby and I always want to ensure that he knows how important his birthdays are. I started planning his birthday months in advanced, and I’ll happily blame all the time spent on Pinterest. Give me allllll the DIY projects. Once I knew our theme, everything seemed to fit into place.
I don’t understand how any mama’s planned anything before Hobby Lobby and Target graced this Earth. Insert heart eye emoji here. I purchased a lot of supplies through these two stores and with a creative mind and a hot glue gun, anything is possible.
It’s amazing what you find when you start looking around your house. I used a beautiful picture frame for the backdrop centerpiece. The deer head, which its original home is on Cole’s bedroom wall, was the perfect touch. I printed off a few of his cake smash photos that I took, and inserted them into the picture frame. The logs that you see in the picture came from our backyard (saving dollar bills, ya’ll). The photo banner hanging from the top, was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest. I purchased plaid paper, printed off Cole’s monthly photos, glued them on, and hung them on twine. TA-DA! Literally soooo easy to make.
Let’s talk goodie bags. This one is a little tricky, only because the kids that were coming to the party, still poop their pants and can’t walk. You feel me? So I had to keep it simple with what to put inside them. I put a jar of red play-dough and a container of bubbles. Wanna know the best part? PURCHASED AT THE DOLLAR STORE. Boom. Here’s some mama advice- when you’re planning any type of event, go to the dollar store. You will be amazed at what you can find there, and I am all about a bargain. The plaid bags were purchased at Target, and the axes were found at Hobby Lobby. My dad’s girlfriend hand “painted” them for me. Some more advice- ASK FOR HELP. Especially from family members. They want to help out, especially when it comes to their Grandson. I printed the little saying out on brown paper, cut it to the size I wanted, and looped it through the drawstring of the bags. I couldn’t of been happier with the outcome!
My husband and I decided to start Cole’s party at 1:00 in the afternoon, so we prepared to serve lunch. We had a lot of people coming, so we wanted to keep it simple. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, fruit salad, chips, and multiple drink choices happily filled the bellies of our guests.
Seriously mamas- keep it simple. I’m not going to lie, I was stressed out during a few points of planning, because of how smoothly I wanted everything to go (and I’ll be the first to admit that I tend to be a perfectionist with details). P.S- nothing ever goes as planned, and that OK! Having our family and closest friends surrounding us to celebrate such an amazing little human, was more than enough. I secretly got emotional once I stopped and looked around yesterday. Our little boy is so loved by so many, and that brings happy tears to my eyes. The weather, company, and reason we were all gathered together yesterday, was absolutely perfect.
I still want to know where the time disappears to, though.
XO
